Train to become a Surveillance Soldier in the Australian Army Reserve. Add an exciting and rewarding new dimension to your life, becoming the eyes and ears of the Army in remote locations in Australia.

If you’re looking for a new challenge, the Army Reserve could be for you. You’ll enjoy the satisfaction of giving something back to Australia, while benefitting from:

• tax-free daily pay
• free healthcare and accommodation when serving
• a flexible time commitment
• comprehensive training
• rewarding work

All that plus exciting opportunities supporting Army domestic activities, including exercises and operations, with potential deployments overseas in support of Australian and coalition personnel.

Here’s a great way to experience life in the Army in a flexible, part-time role.

Australia is a very big place to defend, so the Army operates a defence surveillance network in the vast areas of far north and west Australia. As a Surveillance Soldier (also known as Patrolman) you’ll be part of a small, specialised team conducting patrols and being on constant alert for any suspicious or hostile activity.

You’ll probably live and work in the region so acclimatisation to the conditions won’t be a problem. And your transport to ‘work’ could be a 4WD, a boat, or even an Army helicopter.

The tools of your trade will include a rifle and night fighting equipment, and you’ll be trained in a variety of reconnaissance techniques with plenty of other learning opportunities available.

If you are a good team player, love adventure, and enjoy the challenge of physically-demanding situations and environments, apply now to become a Surveillance Soldier (Patrolman) in the Army Reserve.

Commitment

• 16-day Recruit Induction Course at a Regional Force Surveillance Unit
• Alternatively, a 35-day military training course in Wagga Wagga NSW
• Serve between 20 and 100 days each year (at least 50 days preferred)
• Fit service around your existing work and family commitments

The Army provides special resources to help you approach your employer about your ambition to serve as a Reservist.

Location

• Training in Wagga Wagga, NSW, Darwin and Karratha, NT and Cairns, QLD
• An Army unit close to where you live

Pay

• Fully-paid training
• Once trained, starting package $159.22 per day tax free
• Pay increases with rank and experience

Entry Requirements

• At least 17 years of age
• Australian Citizen
• Year 10 completion with passes in English and Mathematics*

*Due to the unique requirements of this role, special consideration may be given to those less qualified, as long as they demonstrate appropriate attributes.

Medical and fitness guidelines also apply.
